Expert Sensitises Lagos State Corps Members on Security Issues, Safety Measures.

Security expert from Oak Security,  Mr Olusola Oyemisi has charged the 2020 Batch A, stream one Corps members at the Lagos State National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp to be security conscious around their environment.

Oyemisi who gave the charge today, during a security lecture at the orientation camp at Agege, Iyana Ipaja, said the spate of insecurity in Nigeria is alarming and claiming more lives on a daily basis.

He lamented that insecurity has been the order of the day in all the six geopolitical zones in the country, noting that the South West zone, where the corps members are currently serving is familiar with crimes such as, political thuggery, car snatching, cyber crime, terrorism, hoodlums, cult clashes, armed robbery and theft, 419ers, kidnapping, drug abuse and rape among others.

Oyemisi, who defined security to the corps members as peace, conducive environment for citizens in a state and the absence of danger, noted that the government and citizens have their roles to play in ensuring the country is secured.

While stating that security adds to the hallmark or every nation’s economy, Oyemisi noted that there is no country with 100 percent security, including the developed nations that have the necessary structure to tackle the menace.

Oyemisi urged corps members to be aware of the popular crimes in the South West, while enjoining the females to be cautious of posting sensitive information on the internet, as it could be used against them by cyber fraudsters.

He listed security guides for the corps members to observe, which are: "looking out for strange faces, objects, people conversing in small groups, abandoned cars, and shady characters, among others."

Oyemisi further urged the corps members to, " relate well with their neighbours, cultivate a habit of being in the midst of corpers, keep doors locked and ask the identity of visitors before opening the door, not letting anyone make duplicates of their key and replace locks if they lose their  key suspiciously," as well as "not to argue or hassle with armed robbers or acknowledge knowing their identity when in a robbery scene.
