The National Youth Service Corps in Lagos State has today held its Inter-Platoon drills competition in the ongoing batch 'B' stream I orientation course.
The occasion which was sponsored by the General Officer Commanding, 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Godwin Umelo was filled with funfair.
Speaking during the event at the Iyana-Ipaja orientation camp, Major General Umelo who was represented by Brigadier General Musa Etsu-Ndagi , Commander, 9 Brigade, expressed his gladness about the preparedness and commitment of the corps members for the competition.
He said the competition has the tendency of bringing about a better relationship between the Nigerian army and the corps members who may be having their first encounter with soldiers.
He described the drills as a platform to inculcate discipline which the corps members require in their endeavours to achieve success in life.
Reacting to this remark, the State Coordinator, NYSC Lagos State, Mr Eddy Megwa extolled the cordial relationship between the Nigerian Army and the scheme which brought about the colourful event.
Mr Megwa further appreciated General Umelo for sponsoring the event.
At the end of the programme, platoon 4 emerged the winner of the competition, carting away a cash prize of #50,000 and a new trophy; platoon 6 came second with a cash prize of #35, 000 and a new trophy while platoon 3 pipped the other platoons to winning the third position with a cash prize of #25,000 and a new trophy.
