The Lagos State National Youth Service Corps Coordinator, Eddy Megwa has commended the 2019 Batch B Stream one Corps members for creditably serving the nation well.
Megwa who gave the commendation during the passing out of the corps members at the Ikeja Local Government Secretariat, said the 6196 Corps members who are passing out in the state today have done well, having gone through orientation course training, primary assignment and community development services, with special projects executed.
Megwa, who said about 68 Corps members would repeat their service year to serve as punitive measure, commended the efforts of Corps members for contributing their quota during this Covid-19 period, as they have donated palliatives, hand sanitizers and face masks made by them to their host communities.
"Today is the day the service year of 2019 Batch 'B' Stream 1 is coming to an end. We are commencing the distribution of their various Certificate of National Service simultaneously nationwide.
"Due to the pandemic, which the entire nation is facing, the directive from the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters, says that it should be low-key and we should observe all the protocols of Covid-19 in giving out the certificate, which is what we are doing here.
"We have a total of 6196 Corps members in Lagos that are passing out today, even though not all of them will be having their certificates, just as some of them have creditably served the nation well, and will be going with the certificate of national service, some will also be going with some letters of commendation, some of them that did not do well, who abandoned their places of primary assignment will repeat the service, while some will have their service extended. That is the punitive measure," he stressed.
He however, advised the Corps members to redouble their efforts and ensure they contribute positively to the nation, as they have finished their service year.
"Even at a point, some of them said they were passionately led to contribute their own quota in this period of pandemic. They started producing sanitizers, face masks, bacteria handwash and all that. They have been going round all the local government areas in Lagos State and I am so proud of my corps members, they have done what so many that served before them have not been able to do.
"Their impact in this Covid-19 is extra ordinary. Mr. Governor wrote NYSC a letter of appreciation of their input in this Covid-19, assisting the state government to combat this coronavirus. I am proud of my Corps members who are passing out today and those that are still serving, they are doing a good job," he added.
