On Wednesday, 13th of November, the Pan-African Institute for Global Affairs and Strategy, PAIGAS, admonished Corps Members in the Lagos State orientation camp about migrating illegally.
In his lecture, themed Migration: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, the facilitator, Amb. Dayo Adefidipe showed a video representation of gruesome real life experiences of illegal migrants in Libya.
He said, "Migration is as old as life itself. You're free to migrate but don't do it illegally."
While agreeing that the country may not be well equipped for the growth of the youths, Amb. Adefidipe encouraged corps members to stay and help develop the country, rather than migrating permanently to other countries. He went further by highlighting the statistics of Nigerian graduates that traveled to Europe illegally between 2015 and 2018 and the number of deaths recorded.
Speaking on the inhumane treatment illegal migrants receive outside the country, Adefidipe advised the Corps Members to always verify the details of travel information and not just jump at everything that looks like an opportunity.
"If you have confidence in yourself, you'll be able to say no to being subjected to modern day slavery. Instead of traveling illegally, think deeply about what you can do to lead a good life in this country," he concluded.
