We Identify Potential Talents and Groom.

Mr. ADESOLA OLUSADE, PERMANENT SECRETARY OF THE FEDERAL MINISTRY OF YOUTHS AND SPORTS VISITED THE LAGOS STATE NYSC ORIENTATION CAMP on Friday, 15th of November. In this Interview with OBS reporter, Ledeebari Nwizug, he talked about the efforts of the ministry in building young talents in the sport sector and getting them ready for bigger competitions. 

 
He was commended on the part he played in making sure everything was put in place for the Corp Members on the camp.

When asked about the efforts made to ensure the growth and development of various athletes that have performed exceptionally at the NUGA and other grassroot competitions, to groom them well enough to represent Nigeria at the world stage, the speaker told the reporter that the arrangement of sports administration ensures athletes potentials are identified and that they are equiped with the connection needed to enable them perfect their skill.

He said that when potential athletes are identified, they are then handed over to the federation that nurtures them to represent the country. He gave an example of the  5th edition of the National Youth Games, held between the 7th and 17th of September, where two hundred and forty three boarding athletes were identified, he said that when they followed up on the progress of the athletes recently - in September - a private school, Tulip School in Abuja had indicated interest to grant scholarships to performing athletes, saying that they want some of the products of the national youth games and eventually taking about twenty-three athletes on full scholarship. 

Mr Olusade also mentioned that most athletes are unable to afford their transport fare to Abuja and are then sponsored by the ministry of youths and sports. In his final words, he chipped in that himself and the cordinator had discussed that sports participation in camp should be promoted to the highest, to help the Corp Members who are already educated to be identified and trainable in the various science of sports so as to enable them pursue of sports as a career.
