As part of efforts to ameliorate the effects of the lockdown against the COVID-19 scourge in Nigeria, Corps Members serving in ‘Eti-Osa I’ of Lagos State have distributed over 80 cartons of noodles to indigent members of their host community.
The Chairman of Iru Victoria Island LCDA, Hon Princess Rasheedat Abiodun Adu, who received the cartons of noodles from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Zonal Inspector Lagos Island, Princess Ajiboye, commended the NYSC in Iru LCDA for the laudable gesture, in which indigent individuals and some physically challenged persons were also beneficiaries of the palliatives.
The State Coordinator NYSC Lagos, Mr. Eddy Megwa who withnessed the presentation of the items stated that the actions of the Corps Members is part of a National response by the National Youth Service Corps to the pandemic led by the Director General of NYSC Brigadier General Ibrahim Shuaibu.
He said this effort has seen Corps Members all over the Nation contributing to the fight against the spread of COVID-19 virus in Nigeria with the production of face masks, hand sanitizers, liquid soaps and other materials needed to combat the disease.
Megwa also appreciated the Chairman of Iru Victoria Island LCDA, Hon Princess Rasheedat Abiodun Adu for her commendable and invaluable support to the scheme, while pledging that the NYSC will continue to collaborate positively with the Local Council in any area of mutual interest in service to the people.
A representative of the Corps Members while handing over the food items said their action was propelled by the expedient need to assist the Government in ameliorating the challenges of hunger, which is already posing as a serious threat in containing and controlling the further spread of the Covid-19 virus in Lagos State and Nigeria at large.
