The National Youth Service Corps Lagos State Coordinator, Mr. Eddy Megwa has asked the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to ensure both agencies build a stronger relationship in order to strengthen the fight against drug and substance abuse among youths.
The state coordinator who paid a courtesy visit to the NDLEA Commander, Barrister Ralph Igwenagu said it is important both agencies keep close contact and build a strong bond, adding that it is necessary especially as the mandate is to rid the country of drug abuse which is rampant among youths.
Megwa said the NYSC has been crucial in the fight against drug and substance abuse which is why it has always partnered with the NDLEA as one of its stakeholders, while ensuring they are present at the orientation camp to sensitize the corps members against the use of illicit drugs.
The NDLEA boss who received the NYSC team in his office commended the support of the NYSC in its operation to rid the communities of drug abuse.
He reiterated that the NYSC is a major stakeholder in the agency's fight against drug and substance abuse, adding that the mandate of the agency is to target the main victims which are the youths and that the NYSC has so many youths.
Igwenagu said while Lagos State has a large population with a high rate of drug abuse, which is a serious concern, the agency will collaborate with the NYSC to see how both agencies can curb this illicit act in Lagos State.
He added that the corps members have been crucial in carrying out sensitization campaigns in all corners of the society and ensured that the public is educated on the dangers of engaging in drug abuse.
