SAED, A VERITABLE ANTIDOTE TO UNEMPLOYMENT PLAGUING OUR YOUTHS - SANWO-OLU

The wife of the Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Mrs. Ibijoke Sanwoolu has described the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development as a design to instill entrepreneurial mindsets in corps members and a veritable antidote to the unemployment plaguing the youths.

This statement was made during the flaging-off ceremony of the Skills Acquisition programme of the NYSC in the on-going Batch 'B' Stream 1A Orientation course in Iyana-Ipaja, Agege, Lagos State.
The wife of Lagos State Governor, who was represented by the wife of the Executive Chairman of Idimu-Egbe Local Council Development Area,  Mrs. Sanyaolu Olowoopejo, said 'jobs are becoming elusive and therefore necessitating the need for deliberate actions to prepare graduates to become job creators and not job seekers.'
She however urged corps members to seize the opportunity of picking up vital skills to make a successful incursion into the world of business.

She also advised them to tap into the numerous platforms such as the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), skills  acquisition centres of Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, among others to access the needed capital to kick start their businesses.
In the same vein, the State Coordinator, NYSC Lagos State, Mr. Eddy Megwa, has called on corps members to identify with a skill which is the only hope of breaking out of financial dependency.

Mr. Megwa enjoined the corps members to do what they find interesting in order to be financially buoyant.
He said 'you will be doing yourself a disservice if you are not identifying with any skill. You have an opportunity to rewrite your story, to change the narrative of relying on handouts from your parents and relatives.'
The State Coordinator also added that the scheme will be connecting corps members to opportunities of how they can access loans with low or no interest after the service year.
